just tell them it's your fooooselssdaayyyy

Sorry for the delay, it's been a long week. For now, I'll start with my birthday and fill you in on the rest of the week later. So, here goes. I apologize in advance. To start off the day, Susanne, Michael, Niklas, and Sebastian woke me up singing happy birthday in Danish and waving flags.. a traditional birthday wake up. Obviously I documented this.. and almost every second of the day.

Afterward, we went downstairs for a big breakfast; Danish pancakes, homemade jam, fresh fruit, and Michael's homemade bread straight out of the oven. While stuffing my face, I opened presents from the family. Of course they did way too much for me. Spoiled. Hard to put in to words how much I appreciate it all. They got me a purple travel mug.. I had mentioned a while back that I wished I had brought one from home..and purple because they know it's my favorite color. So sweet. Then I opened my Nike running shirt and running gloves.. I had been borrowing Susanne's whenever we went out. It's the little things:) So it keeps coming. Remember Henrik? Their photographer friend we had dinner with the other night? Well he has a giant book of his photos called Copenhagen From Above. They got it for me. Forever a keepsake. Stilllll not done. Saved the best for last. MADS LANGER TICKETS! Mads is a Danish singer, I think I mentioned him before? Like the male version of Adele. Anyway, I love love LOVE him. They got 2 tickets for me and Julia!! Like, really?? AHHHH. Too much. The concert is March 21, the day before I leave for Rome. Here's a link. Check him out. Mads Langer.

breakfast, birthday bag, and presents:)

Around 2pm, all the guests started to arrive. My friends from SLU, Julia, Christie, Kim, Liz, and Ngozi; Susanne's sister and her older son, Pascal (Thierry's older brother) who had been in Thailand and I hadn't met yet, Susanne's brother and his wife from way down south, Susanne's friend Karen, and Niklas' girlfriend. We had cake (about 8 of them, to be exact), coffee, tea, etc. and then I opened more presents (yes, there was more). Karen being the seamstress that she is, made me a scarf that both she and Susanne already had and I told her that I loved a while back. Martine and Pascal got me a cute shirt, Susanne brother and his wife got me another really cute scarf, Niklas' girlfriend brought me a necklace she got in China, and the girls brought me drinks, baked goods, etc. :)
yes, Sebastian does have the capability of smiling:)

After presents, it was time for songs. Lots of them. Can't tell you what any of it meant, but it was WAY too funny to hear. Yes, I have videos of that too.

Considering we all ate about 1000 calories in cakes and breads, we went for a walk down to the harbor before we ate 1000 more at dinner. Healthy - rice, curry vegetables, hummus, bread, salad - but too good to not take 3 servings, feel me?

The rest of the night can only be described in pictures, as they speak far more than a thousand words. Took the train into the city. Best train ride ever thanks to Ngozi. Basically, we drank Tuborg, beat boxed, and rapped a birthday song for 35 minutes. Almost left my phone on the train. Someone up there was reaalllyyyyyy looking out for me that night.
Went to Out of Juice again. Met up with a bunch of friends from our core course. Told everyone it was my birthday (hence the title of this blog; "fooselsday" is actually fødselsdagen meaning birthday in Danish) and then drank birthday shots from everyone. Here began my quest for the night; 21 pictures with 21 guys for my 21st birthday. Classic. somehow only managed to get 20, but #17 counts twice. Feast your eyes, if you dare.

I'd say this pic pretty much sums up the night. Best. Ever. Love. Life.

So there you have it. And Nana and Grandma, I'm sure you're concerned, but do not worry. I was safe and smart and responsible. All in good, 21st fødselsdagen fun, ya dig?
Well, that's my birthday. More soon, including my night at the Royal Theatre for a ballet and my field trip to an open prison (Jyderup) for my criminology class. You'd never believe it unless you saw it. Anyway, cheers!
